“Words!”

In past months we have dealt with the importance of commitment, dedication and the need for intercessory prayer in this newsletter. This month our topic is the basics of faith and confession. Some might say, “But Brother Bill, that is ‘old hat,’ I’ve heard all that before.” Maybe you have heard it all, maybe you haven’t! Is the Word of God working for you in this area? If it is – GREAT! Maybe you can afford to stress another area for a while. But if confession of the Word is not working as consistently for you as it should then you need to study it again.

Is the study of confession of the mouth really all that important? Yes! It is at the very heart of our Christian walk. You had to confess Jesus as Lord with your mouth to be born again according do Romans 10:9, 10. This principle of the power of words is found all the way through the Bible. Understanding Mark 11:23, 24 is vital to our success in every area of our life. If you cease to confess God’s Word concerning your health – satan will begin to attack you in that area. If you are no longer speaking words of success over your business affairs – your prosperity will begin to wane. We need to continue in what we have learned about the power and authority of our words, as well as developing ourselves in other areas.

I realize that some think that they have “outgrown” the teaching of confession of God’s Word. They think, “I’ve heard all that before, let’s go on to something else!” We need to take Paul’s words to heart in Philippians 3:1, “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.” The teaching of confession might be one of the “same things” he’s speaking of. Something you’ve heard taught for years. But for you to have a “refresher course” this month on The Spirit of Faith Broadcast is safe for you!

“Intercession”

In this day we are hearing more and more about the need for intercession. There is a call of God to the Christian to intercede for their church, community and the world. We need to take this call very seriously!

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved; and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Notice that prayer and intercession is a priority! We are to pray – first of all. Why pray for those that are in authority? That we may lead quiet and peaceful lives in godliness and honesty. I heard Brother Kenneth Copeland say once that every wave of revival in the world was soon followed by and attempt by satan to stir up war on the earth. Every time the revival was side tracked because people got their eyes off of spiritual things and unto the state of world affairs. Not this time! We are forewarned, if we desire quiet, peaceful times to be free to minister the Gospel to the world, we must pray! Pray for those that are in authority – in government, in the schools, in the police forces of our nation – and in the churches! Lift up your pastor in intercessory prayer!

Verse four of 1 Timothy Chapter Two says that it is God’s will that all men be saved. God’s will is clear, He provided Jesus as a sacrifice for the world, He wants them saved. But, God’s will does not always come to pass automatically. He didn’t want Israel to have a king, but they kept badgering Him to let them be like other nations and have one – it almost ruined them. His perfect will was for them to allow Him to rule them – as a “Theocracy.” But they rejected His perfect will. God’s will is for all to be saved, BUT people must receive Jesus by choice. By prayer we can help to supernaturally “birth” people into the Kingdom of God! Notice also, it is God’s will that all be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. What is the truth? God’s Word is the Truth! (John 17:17) He wants people to come into knowledge of His Word!

What part does intercession play in this? It changes circumstances, allows the spiritual atmosphere to change, “births” people into the kingdom – and at the same time it helps you! How? Intercession is done mainly by praying in the spirit, or in other tongues. (1 Corinth. 14:14) When you pray in the spirit Jude verses 20 and 21 says that you are building yourself up on your most holy faith and keeping yourself in the love of God. You don’t build your faith by intercession – you build yourself up on your faith. This agrees with 1 Corinth. 14:4, you are edified, or as the Greek says here, “charged up” when you pray in the spirit. We need to build ourselves up by praying in the spirit, and at the same time we are keeping ourselves in the love of God! That is the context of Jude verse 20. Intercession is the highest expression of God’s Love working in us. We are being used of God, unselfishly to pray and lift up others, yet God uses this very act of intercession to build us up in that prayer time on our faith. Do you desire to be strongly used of God? Then allow: Him to use you in the powerful ministry of intercessory prayer!

“The Faith Life”

In last month’s issue we saw that we needed to be committed to a local Church that teaches the uncompromising Word of Faith. As Brother Copeland, and many other Word ministers are teaching now, we need to be committed people as Christians. The faith walk is not a “flowery bed of ease!” Some people may like to think that it is, but that doesn’t make it so. However, I didn’t say that this life is hard either. You may think that it must be one or the other. No! It is not hard because Jesus has done the hard part – He came, lived the perfect will of God – a sinless life, then He died. In dying, He was made to be sin. (2 Corinth. 5:21) I didn’t say that He committed sin – He didn’t, He lived a sinless life. But, when He took our sins on Himself (1 Peter 2:24) He was made to be sin. In other words, an exchange took place. He took our sins on His Body and became sin. That made possible, when we become born-again believers, our being made (not by our works) the righteousness of God in Him. Why go into this?

To illustrate this – the hard part has been accomplished in our living in God by faith. Jesus provided it for us! We, as Christians have been made the righteousness of God in Him! Now, because we are the righteousness of God we are in proper standing and relationship to our heavenly Father.

That is what “righteousness” means – “right-standing.” Does this mean that as Christians we are incapable of sinning? No! I believe that we know better than that! Listen to James 1:19, 20, “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” Notice, if we don’t act, live and operate properly in our Christian life, we do not cease to be the righteousness of God – we are simply not working our righteousness. Some folks feel that if they are born-again – then commit a sin – that they need to be “born-again again” Brethren, that’s not possible! No, if we commit a sin after we are born again we need to confess it as sin and act on 1 John 1:9. If we confess our sin, God forgives us and forgets that sin! Notice that verse – He cleanses us from all unrighteousness! Praise God! If you sin – confess it – then don’t let satan condemn you any more (Rom. 8:1).

There is another error that some folks fall into. They seem to believe that as Christians, it is alright to do anything, live any way – and still think that they can get in on all the blessings God’s Word promises. This is wrong as well! As Christians we are not to have a sin consciousness, that’s true, BUT – 1 John 1:10 says, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.” But, isn’t this talking to sinners? No, this chapter is written to Christians. Read the chapter closely. Besides, this verse says, “… His Word is not in us…” if we say we never sin. Who is the Word in? Sinners? No! God’s engrafted Word is in believers! Notice the first verse of Chapter Two of 1 John. “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. Who did he write them to? Brethren. Christians! Why? That they would sin not. But notice what he goes on to say. “And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous…” (1 John 2:1) We, as Christians, have Jesus as an advocate in case we do sin! What is an advocate?

The Greek word here is – “parakletos.” W.E. Vine’s Expository of New Testament Words says of this word – “…called to one’s side, i.e., to one’s aid… used to denote a legal assistant…generally, one who pleads another’s case, an intercessor…” Glory to God! Jesus is interceding before God – on our case – as our lawyer! He’s a good one too!

What does all this lead us to? Well, we, as Christians, been made the righteousness of God, we should not have a sin consciousness. That is, constantly thinking, “I’m just a dirty, rotten sinner – God can’t use me!” (God can’t use you while you think like that!) But, on the other hand, we have an advocate, Jesus, if we do commit sin. If we do slip up and sin – we should confess it – then go on with God. yourself in a position of pure fellowship with your Father. Don’t sin – but if you do, confess it, and go on with Him! Colossians 1:10-29 describes this best. Let’s look at a few these scriptures, then after reading this article – read the whole chapter!

“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God… (Jesus) hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear ion, _in whom we have redemption through His Bloods even the forgiveness of sins…” Notice, Jesus hath, already done it! That may not be good English, but it is good news! We have redemption through Him! Finally, look at verse 21 – “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath He reconciled in the Body of His Flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight: if_ ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope (expectation) of the Gospel…” Glory! If you continue in the faith and in the Word you are presented holy and unblameable and unreprovable! Brethren take these things to heart- continue in the faith of God’s Word. “For without faith it is impossible to please Him.” (Heb. 11:6)

“Commit!”

As many of you have heard from the Spirit of Faith Broadcast, I am no longer pastoring. When I started both Word of Faith Fellowship in Salisbury and Healing Springs Faith Center in the Denton area, the two churches that I have pastored, I saw that there was a need for local churches that would teach the Word of Faith. I always felt that I was not a pastor but a teacher with a traveling ministry. But I saw a need and said, “Well, Lord, if no one else will fill the need then I’m available.” Now that there are several local Word Churches in our immediate area that have pastors that are called and anointed by God as pastors, my assignment has changed. I am returning to my true calling of a teacher in the Body of Christ. Even when I was filling the position of pastor I was constantly frustrated by the position. I found teaching no problem whether behind the pulpit in church or on the road, but teaching the Word is not all that is involved in pastoring!

My experience as a pastor has given me some needed lessons in how a church works and how important it is! God expects you to COMMIT to a local church. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another…” (Hebrews 10:25) This is not Just a verse that pastors quote to get people in church, it is the Word of God! We can’t claim to be a “Word Person” on the one hand and ignore scripture like this on the other.

What is commitment all about? One meaning is “to bind to”. It is binding ones self to a church, to become a vital part of seeing that church fulfill its vision. We’ve seen in past studies that the Word says that without a vision people perish (Prob. 298 18.) If you get a hold of a church’s vision and run with it, you’ll succeed. Not only will you succeed, so will your church! If you don’t know your pastor’s vision, ask him! Show him Habakkuk 2:2, 3 and say, “Pastor if you’ll give me a simple, clear picture of our vision, I’ll run with it!”. Then, watch him get excited!

Don’t be afraid of commitment! It is scriptural and it is of great benefit to you. I am convinced that if we would do our part as committed members of local Word Churches, we would soon reach the whole world with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ!

A Personal Word

As many of you have heard from the Spirit of Faith Broadcast, I am no longer pastoring. When I started both Word of Faith Fellowship in Salisbury and Healing Springs Faith Center in the Denton area, the two churches that I have pastored. I saw that there was a need for local churches that would teach the Word of Faith. I found teaching no problem whether behind the pulpit in church or on the road, but teaching the Word is not all that is involved in pastoring!

My experience as a pastor has given me some needed lessons in how a church works and how important it is! That is why I am now involved as a member at Taylors Grove Church. Brother Gary Price, pastor of Taylors Grove, is a called and dedicated pastor that ministers the Word of Faith! I am excited about the vision that he has for our local Denton area and beyond! As the teaching article this month explains, you need to become part of a good Word Church and get a hold of its vision! The vision Brother Gary has for Taylors Grove is that, “Taylors Grove is – where Faith works by Love, a ‘Mother Church’ where ministries are born and nurtured, and where the needs of people are met – Spirit, Soul, Body, Financially and Socially!”

What does all this for Word of Faith Ministries? Well, in many ways… no change. Our radio, newsletter and teaching outreach will remain the same. Our vision to “Proclaim the Word of Faith, Showcase Ministries and Train People to Fulfill the Word of God” has not changed. Our Faith Exploits Satellite Program will now be at Taylors Grove Church each month during the Satellite Seminars. The Satellite Bible School will be held at our Word of Faith Ministries office on Highway Eight starting in the Fall of 1983.

I am very excited about the things that God is doing in our area – Satellite, Channel 20 television, radio, seminars, youth outreach – all of which are featured in this newsletter. Praise God for all that is happening!

“Continue!”

Last month our teaching article was on why some Christians are failing in their faith walk. Many have made “faith attempts” but have not seen success. This has caused some to abandon the life of faith, or the “faith message” in despair, frustration or, sometimes, anger! Should “faith teaching” be abandoned? NO! The Word is plain that it is impossible to please God without faith! (Hebrews 11:6) If we have a desire to walk pleasing unto God, we are going to have to be “faith people!” Now, I realize that there have been extremes among some who thought they heard a Bible teacher say something that they thought they understood, and thought they knew how to apply. They wound up as confused as that last sentence! I am convinced that many folks that have wrongly applied the “faith message” are the ones responsible for the misunderstandings that have arisen. For instance, I trust that no one reading this article has done this – let’s say that someone hears it taught that you can have what you say. So they go off “claiming by faith” someone’s husband or wife! You may think that it hasn’t happened, but it has! I don’t care how much you may think you’ve “heard from God.” If you are doing something like that, it is not only misapplying the Word – it is sin! You need to confess it as such and go on with God!

This kind of story has been told over and over, trying to discredit those of us that teach faith. But the problem is not with the teaching, the problem is with some of the hearers! Some folks that hear the message of faith, prosperity, healing and success are just seeking things, but do you know what I’ve found? Those people don’t hang around too long! The REAL life of faith is not a “get rich quick scheme,” it is a way of life! Those that are after things don’t last long. No, the blessings of God don’t rain down on you like ripe cherries off of a tree. You have to continue in the Word. (John 8:31) You have to study to show yourself approved, a workman that doesn’t need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) Remember, it is a LIFE of faith! It took a while for you to become trained in unbelief before you became a believer, it may take a while for you to become trained to speak, act on, and do the Word. But don’t give up! CONTINUE in the Word of Faith!

“Why Do Some Christians Fail?”

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” This scripture from Hosea 4:6 answers many questions that are bothering Christians today. Many have made the statement, “I’ve tried ‘that faith stuff,’ and it didn’t work for me!”. Why did they fail? Hosea 4:6 says it was a lack of knowledge that caused their failure! Not only that, you have to LIVE faith (Hab. 2:4, Heb. 10:33), not just TRY it!

What about Hosea 4:6? The word “destroyed” used in the King James in this verse literally means, “to be dumb or silent (not speaking), hence to fail or perish”, in the original language. God’s people are failing in their faith walk because they are not speaking correctly (according to the Word of God), or they are simply not confessing the Word at all. The direction of, and the events in, our lives is determined by our WORDS. (James 3:6) Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” We can choose life by choosing our words. If we remain silent, or speak negatively, we leave ourselves at the mercy of satan, and he has no mercy! We must make the quality decision to choose the Word of God and speak it! His Word will promote and prosper us! Remember, it is not enough to “try faith stuff,” we must live and walk by faith, being consistent in our confession and DO THE WORD!

Make a stand on the Word and don’t waver! Ephesians 6:13, 14 does not say, “Stand a week, or a month, or even a year, and then give up!” NO! We are to stand and having done all… STAND! If you are determined to stand forever if necessary, you will usually find you won’t have to stand long! Praise God, satan is defeated! We have the victory! And that victory is our FAITH! (1 John 5:3, 4)

“1983 – The Year of Victory!”

This past year has been one adventure in faith after another! It has seen the beginning of the Satellite Ministry, and as you can see, we are having some of the greatest speakers in the world today on the giant screen. Within this year of 1983 we mill have completed our new addition at Healing Springs Faith Center that will allow us to have the Satellite Seminars at our own facility. Until then, we will continue to have the Satellite Meetings at Psalm 91 Church.

Radio TowerThe radio tower you see at the left of this article was given to us this past month! We have set ourselves to have a Christian Radio Station that will have only the Word taught on it and contemporary Christian music!

So far we have not been able to find an available frequency on either the AM or the FM bands. Set yourselves in agreement with us that something will become available! We want to thank the many folks that have joined the Faith Exploits “200 Club” to help pay off the Satellite receiving equipment.

We are still believing for all 200 people that will give a $25.00 one time gift for this special purpose. Partnerships are still available. And to all those that have joined so far – many thanks, and we know that God will continue to richly bless you! You will be receiving your tapes and certificates during this month.

The Spirit of Faith Broadcast has received a lot of response in the past year and we are looking for its continued growth. January 29, 1983 will mark our fourth year of continuous broadcast on WLXN at 5:15 PM. Look on the back of this newsletter at the coverage that we have on WLXN! You can help spread the Word of God if you see a city on the map that WLXN reaches and realize that you have a friend there. Call them and tell them about the Broadcast!

The Spirit of Faith Newsletter itself has grown in outreach in the past year to over 1000 homes on the mailing list! This includes sending newsletters to over 14 states! This year you will see many changes in the newsletter!

God has instructed us to use all forms of electronic mass media to preach and teach the Word of God. You will be seeing expansion in these areas in this coming year as well. As you can see, God is blessing us here at Word of Faith Ministries, and we believe that He will bless you in this year as well! 1983 – The Year Of Victory!

“Unity!”

“And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Eph. 4:11-13

God is calling the Body of Christ into the Unity of the faith! He says in Ephesians 5: 27 that He is coming for a church without spot or wrinkle. .. and that it will be holy and without blemish. We must begin to work together to win the world to Jesus! This means laying aside our petty differences and looking not just at the things of ourselves, but looking rather at the things of others. (Phil. 2:4) What does this mean? We are not to just to try to build up our ministry, or our church; we are to also look on, and help, other ministries and churches.

Notice what Philippians 1:27 says… “that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel. ” We are to work together for the faith! How? By standing together in one spirit and one mind. You are going to see more of what is happening with us here at Healing Springs Faith Center and Psalm 91 Church. We both had a need. Healing Springs Faith Center is a Satellite Affiliate and has satellite receiving equipment but we don’t have a building big enough to have the Satellite Seminars in, yet!

Psalm 91 has a nice building, and as you can see from the photo on the cover, they are building on to that! By working together, both needs were met, and people are able to be blessed. As a matter of fact, we believe that the power and anointing on these meetings will be more powerful than ever because of this unity!

I can not encourage you enough! Lay aside whatever it may be that has kept you out of churches other than the one you attend. If a church or ministry other than the one you support directly is preaching the uncompromised Word of Faith, you need to be free to attend special meetings in those other churches!

“Good Reports” (From the Satellite Seminar)

Last month, at the Satellite Seminar, many folks received their healing and gave some good reports! The Satellite meetings seem to get better and more anointed each month. Even before the meeting, God was moving to meet the needs of one dear sister. She has been on our mailing list for quite some time. Brother Bill received a phone call from this lady two weeks before the Satellite meeting. She said that if Brother Bill would pray with her over the phone she would receive her healing by faith! Well, he did, and she did! She reported at the Satellite meeting that the same doctor that had diagnosed her as having glaucoma in her eyes told her at a return visit, after prayer – that her eyes were clear and that they were 20/20. Her vision wasn’t that good to begin with! Others that reported that they were now well included: lumps that got smaller – one brother that didn’t even think to check himself after Marilyn Hickey called out that lumps and tumors were leaving, after the meeting felt – and it was gone! – legs were healed of pain – teeth and gums were healed!

Write the Vision!

“Proclaim the Word of Faith, Be A Showcase of Ministries, and Train People to Fulfill the Word of God.” This is the vision of Word of Faith Ministries. So many exciting things have happened as we have been operating within this vision God gave us!

We have laid out this issue of “The Spirit of Faith” so that you can see the vision coming to pass. Habakkuk 2:3 says that the vision will speak, and it is speaking! The Lord reminded me recently that the second part of our vision is to be a “showcase of ministries.” The Satellite Ministry is a very direct fulfillment of this part of our vision. What else could “showcase” ministries in any better way? What is a “showcase”? It is a means of displaying your finest things. We are making available the finest ministries in the world – Live Via Satellite! Glory to God, it is exciting!

The first part of our vision is to proclaim the Word of Faith. We have been doing this through our church, Healing Springs Faith Center, our radio broadcast; even this newsletter, which we put out every month. 2 Timothy 4:2 says, “Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ” In the Greek, the word translated “preach”, used here, literally means – “proclaim”. We are proclaiming the Word in any way possible! In fact, God told me recently to be a real “Electronic Church,” that is, to preach and teach the Word with every means of electronic mass media. Because of this, I see all kinds of new and exciting things in store for us in this ministry!

I’d like to take this section, which we have headed up with the third part of the vision the Lord gave us- that of training people to fulfill the Word of God, to tell you something God said to me recently. In order to train you to fulfill God’s Word we have to bring out some subjects that are not “shouting ground,” so to speak. Last month, on the “Spirit of Faith Broadcast” I taught on the fact that God wants Christians to prosper financially so that they can, in turn, support the ministry of the Word in the earth. (Deut. 8:17, 18) In doing so I brought out the point that some folks are speaking words of faith about their needs being met according to Philippians 4:19 – yet, they are not givers! Read that chapter closely! It was written to givers!

We have set our faith to receive the Satellite Receiving Equipment that we have – paid off in full by the end of the year! I was meditating on this one day, as I was driving down the road. I was thinking, “I wonder if someone will write us a check for the full amount?” God interrupted me and said, “If 200 people gave $25.00 one time, it would be paid for. You see, son, I’d rather bless 200 people with one hundred fold on their gift to the ministry, than just blessing one!” Now, if you knew my own natural mathematic ability you would appreciate – I didn’t even know how much 200 times $25.00 was! But God is a mathematician!

Those of you that have received either the radio broadcast or this newsletter know that I do not make appeals, or beg for money. God is capable of supplying our needs – BUT He uses people to do it… “Why? Because He wants to bless the giver! All I will say is this, of God is speaking to you about being a supply line to pay off the Satellite Equipment- simply be obedient. You will be blessed!

“From the Pastor’s Desk”

Praise the Lord! I just wanted to share some things from my heart this month. I am amazed as I watch what God is doing in these days! The speed at which things are happening is beyond my imagination of only a year… or even six months ago. If you had told me then that we would be involved in satellite ministry – I would have said, “I don’t know, that would seem to be far off, in the future, after we’ve grown some more as a ministry.” But God had other plans! He spoke to me an said to be an “Electronic Church.” What does this mean? He said to use every available means of modern technology to preach and teach the uncompromised Word of God. The Satellite Seminars are just the beginning of the fulfillment of this new part of our vision.

The overall vision for Word of Faith Ministries, Inc. and our church, Healing Springs Faith Center is:
“To Proclaim the Word of Faith, To Be A Showcase of Ministries (the satellite certainly makes that possible,) and Train People To Fulfill the Word of God.”

Praise God, we have not lost sight of the vision! Without a vision the people fail and are destroyed, but with a vision? We grow and succeed! We are believing that many more will catch on to this vision. When God called me to pastor I thought, “Lord, are you sure? I’ve always been a teacher, a traveling minister; I don’t know anything about pastoring!” But God said do it, and we’ve done it! Now, Healing Springs Faith Center is growing and prospering!

We have the best people in the world attending and working together! I know that every pastor must feel that way but – Praise God, it’s so! We have the greatest Children’s Church in this whole area – because we have an anointed head of this area, Laura Adams. She’s been teaching the kids the Word, not just baby sitting them. They even set goals for this year – the kids, not just Laura! They have big vision as well as the adults!

I am excited about the direction that we are headed in. Many things have happened in the past in this ministry… all of them were great adventures in faith. But I’m convinced that the best is yet to come! We are taking the whole area around Denton and Davidson county for Jesus! The spiritual atmosphere is changing over this area! I tell you, folks, it’s time to get committed to a good Word Church and receive training on being a useful member of the Body of Christ! Praise God! There is a call of God going forth in these days to get committed! Too many have been sitting around “playing church” or being “cruise-a-matics” (that is someone that just floats from place to place looking to get blessed.) I know that some may have been able to get away with that it in the past – but I believe that God is telling us that that day is over! We need to be a blessing, not just want to get blessed ourselves. Now, there’s nothing wrong in and of itself in being blessed. I’m talking about an attitude! We are going to have to realize that God has been training us in the Word, and faith so that we can do a job!
