"Our Responsibility As Believers"
"I can do all things through
Christ which strengthenth me." (Phil. 4:13) Who
can do all things? "Why, God can, of course!"
some might say. And that's true. God can do all
things. But that is not what that verse we
quoted says! It says that "I can do all things."
You need to see that you have the responsibility
to do the things that the Word of God says that
you can do. "But, Brother Bill", some might say,
"I don't have the strength or ability to do 'all
things!'" The Word didn't say to use your
strength or ability, it said to do all things
through Christ which strengthenth us. Whose
strength? Jesus'! Whose ability? His! Not ours!
Notice Eph. 4:10, "Finally, my brethren, be
strong in the Lord, and in the power of His
might." Who is to be strong? YOU! How are you to
be strong? In the power of His might! Notice
once again, it is your responsibility to be
strong, not God's! Too many Christians are
asking God, "Why don't You do something in my
behalf?" God has already done something for you.
He sent His Son, Jesus, to the cross for you. He
shed His blood for you, what else does it take
in your estimation?

No, now that God has provided for all things (2
Peter 1:3) it is up to us to appropriate them by
acting on the Word of God. WE must do it. It is
our responsibility! Let's look at Eph. 4:22,
"That ye put off concerning the former
conversation (behavior, in the Greek text) the
old man..." Now verse 24..."And that
ye put on
the new man..." Who is responsible to do the
putting off and the putting on? Once again, YOU!
But weren't we made the righteousness of God in
Christ Jesus? (2 Cor. 5:21) Yes, we were,
"created in righteousness and true holiness." as
verse 24 of Eph. 4 goes on to say. But, we are
to put on that new man! We are to conform our
behavior to that new man that we now are. How?
By walking in the Spirit. (Rom. 8:1-17) Lean to
your spirit man, the new man that you are. Don't
lean to your understanding. (Prob. 3:5) It is
your responsibility!
